The benefits of drinking milk are … well there aren’t any, other than the fact that you are drinking, so keeping your hydration up. Milk benefits are a myth. How it ever came into being is a mystery. But today, the industry is desperate to keep it going, and people are gullible.

Not only is there no benefit of drinking milk, it is actually harmful, both to infants on formula milk and to adults. Goat’s milk is no better than cow’s milk, even though some children don’t react as badly to it.

Formula Milk For Infants and Children
Cow’s milk is a wonderful food – for baby cows. Each species have unique requirements, including that for their young. Each species grow at different rates, develop at different rates, have different nutritional requirements and so on.

Cows grow at a phenomenal rate. They are huge animals with massive bones. They are fully mature in 12 months.

Humans grow at an incredibly slow rate, not being fully grown till around 16 – 17 years of age.

These two stark differences means that the diet must be very different. It also means that the milk, the first food, of the young will vary enormously.

Milk contains the perfect balance in the exact proportions for the growth of the young of the mother. Fat, protein, water, lactose (the milk sugars), minerals (including calcium and iron), enzymes, phospholipids (like fat) all vary according to the species. Human milk is much lower in calcium, protein and sodium, than cow’s of goat’s milk. This is to accommodate the much slower growth rate.

This is why formula fed babies gain weight much more quickly than breastfed babies. And there are consequences for this later on in life.

Dairy milk contains 1200mg calcium per quart. Human milk contains 300mg per quart. Yet the breastfed baby absorbs more calcium than does the formula fed baby.

Other differences are that human milk contains higher levels of polyunsaturated fats, carbohydrates, iron and vitamin C.

Mother’s milk is also a source of protection from infections for the infant, because babies don’t have an immune system. It is yet to develop. Bovine infections are very different from human infections.

The diseases common in infants or children who drink fresh milk (or any product which contains it) include:

  • iron deficiency anaemia
  • anaemia from a steady gastrointestinal haemorrhage too small to be visible in the stool
  • diarrhoea from poor assimilation
  • allergies
  • skin problems such as rashes, acne
  • streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat)
  • asthma
  • appendicitis
  • atherosclerosis
  • ear infections
  • bronchitis
  • probably leukaemia
  • probably rheumatoid arthritis
  • vague, recurrent abdominal pains, repeated headaches, aching muscles/joints
  • simple bedwetting

Adults Who Consume Dairy Products
Adults fare little better than children. All the different types of milk that are produced in an attempt to keep people drinking milk and other dairy products, such as lactose free milk and a2 milk are creating the same problems. Processing anything de-natures it creating complex and long term health issues for the consumer.

Pasteurized milk is considered as a safety measure as it is heated in an attempt to kill off bacteria such as streptococcal. But it only manages to reduce the numbers and strep throats are still very common.

Homogenized milk is done to mix the cream in with the milk. Both pasteurisation and homogenization are processes that severely de-nature the milk, adding in more problems for the consumer, including heart related health issues.

Many people feel that there are benefits of drinking milk if it is raw. Certainly raw milk is more natural, so will have less of an impact on the consumers health. But consider this. To obtain milk, the calf (or kid) is usually removed from the mother, often at birth. Can you imagine the grief the mother (not to mention the baby) feels? This is the worse thing you can do to any mother.

Can you begin to imagine the effect this will have on her milk? How on earth can any thinking person consider the product from a deeply grieving animal can benefit them?

What about organic milk? Surely that is healthier. Certainly it is a lot healthier as there aren’t the problems with toxicity from agricultural chemicals. But the other factors remain.

Skimmed milk is a common diet food, but the above problems, plus an additional processing, remain.

The diseases common in adults who drink fresh milk (or any product which contains it) include:

  • cramps
  • diarrhoea from poor assimilation
  • allergies
  • central in the origins of atherosclerosis
  • central in the origins of heart attacks
  • probably multiple sclerosis
  • probably dental decay

There is no such thing as healthy milk except for mother’s milk fed to her baby. There is no good reason for weaned children or adults to consume any form of milk or product which contains milk. There is only one reason to consume milk, that is unavoidable. And that is when a mother can’t make enough milk for her baby. And she doesn’t live near any human milk bank. Even then, that should be limited to three times the birth weight, and when the infant is eating solids. And homeopathy may be able to help the mother produce more milk.

If you care about your health, ditch the entrenched idea that there are benefits of drinking milk. There aren’t. Find a substitute for your tea/coffee, cooking, etc. Oat milk, almond milk, rice milk or no milk.

What Is Healthy Food?

There is a huge range of opinions over what is healthy food. Any hapless person starting out trying to find the best healthy food choices could be forgiven for being totally confused. Should you focus on protein? Should you reduce carbohydrates? Should you limit your calories?

First, it’s wise to be aware of the origins of much of the literature and guidelines, even government guidelines, or perhaps especially. We live in an incredibly corrupt world. Corporations profit enormously from passing myths off as the truth. They have infiltrated all the governments of the western world and most others. They dominate mainstream media. Their pockets are deep. They are the major influencers of today.

So it’s wise to look at the origins of humans, at independent studies that have no agenda and at common sense.

Let’s look at our origins. I challenge the hunter/gatherer concept. It’s more gatherer/hunter. Hunting is a dangerous pastime. I don’t believe people would have engaged in it as often as some history books would like us to believe. Gathering is far easier. And with a much smaller population, no chemical farms, no cities, plant life would have been in abundance. How easy gathering the plant offerings would have been. And what incredible diversity.

When you look at our bodies, the signs scream at those who can see, that we may be omnivores, but we are at the herbivore end, not the carnivore. Our teeth are more like horses teeth than cats. Our intestines are long like a herbivore, rather than short as carnivores have. We thrive in an internal alkaline environment.

All animal protein (red meat, white meat, eggs, dairy) has an acidic effect on our bodies. Acidity in our bodies create inflammation. Chronic inflammation that comes from eating animal protein daily is the reason behind all ailments, including heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Heart disease and cancer are the first two leading causes of death.

But the protein myth continues unabated. Yet plants also contain protein. T Colin Campbell, a nutrition researcher I have a great deal of respect for, discovered that humans need about 10% protein. Plants, on average, have 10% protein. That means we can get all our protein from eating a variety of healthy plant based food. Without making our bodies acidic.

Another myth is calcium. The idea is that we can only source calcium from milk. Yet, looking at horses again, a young horse will grow from birth to fully grown in a single year, simply on a diet of grass. Horses have massive bones. It is truly unthinkable to consider that we need milk, a food for babies, and baby cows at that, for our bone health.

Meat needs calcium to digest. When we eat meat without the bones that accompany it, the body pulls calcium from our bones and teeth to digest the meat. So now, not only are we more acidic, now we also have poorer bone and teeth health.

So if animal protein is bad for you, what is healthy food, in reality? After all, most people base every meal around animal protein.

Healthy foods are carbohydrates. Before you throw up your hands in horror, know that there are basically two types of carbohydrates. All plant based foods are carbohydrates. White sugar is a carbohydrate. So is a fresh peach. Yet their effect on use differs enormously.

White sugar has been processed. The goodness, the minerals and other healthy nutrients that are needed to digest it, has been stripped away. When you consume white sugar (a better name for it is white poison), again your body removes minerals from other areas to help digest it.

When you consume a fresh peach, your body can easily digest that.

It now becomes easy to create a healthy food list as well as an unhealthy one:

A List of Healthy Food

  • all fresh produce unsullied by processing or by chemical farming methods
  • this includes fresh vegetables and fruit, nuts and seeds
  • frozen produce can also be healthy as can dried produce as long as preservatives have not been added

A List of Unhealthy Food

  • all processed produce such as white sugar, white flour, white rice, packets of foods, any food with additives and E numbers
  • this means most commercial bakery items and fast food outlets are unhealthy
  • any animal protein consumed more than about three times a week – the only exception to this would be for Eskimos or desert dwellers

Now for the research.
A study published in Neurology with over 27,000 people in a period of 56 months, found that cognitive decline was lowest in those who ate the most fruit, vegetables and whole grains.

The University of Pittsburgh published a study in Nature Communications involving swapping the diet of 20 African Americans (typically full of meat, meat fat, fast food) with that of 20 rural South Africans (typically plant based of cornmeal and beans) for two weeks.

The South African diet reduced secondary bile in the colon by 70% in the Americans, but the American diet increased this carcinogenic bile by 400% in the South Africans.

The American Journal of Health Promotion published a study by a psychiatrist who used diet instead of anti-depressants for depression. In an 18 week study in a corporate setting, changing the diet to a plant based nutrition programme improved depression, anxiety, fatigue, productivity and, for those with type II diabetes, blood sugar. They also became more socially active.

A presentation at the European Congress on Obesity showed that those who ate large quantities of protein and small amounts of carbohydrates – similar to the Atkins diet – were almost twice as likely to gain more than 10% of body weight and experienced a 59% increase in mortality. High protein diets are associated with increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease and insulin sensitivity.

Old habits die hard. However, for those truly looking for ways to improve their health, for those truly looking for foods that are healthy, will find the truth. When people want to know what is healthy food or what is a healthy lifestyle, they need to be able to discern the truth (with reasons) from the myths.

Benefits of Healthy Eating Habits

It’s hard to over-emphasis the benefits of healthy eating habits. Habits are something you slip into easily on a daily basis, without thinking. So getting into healthy eating habits is a must if you want to be vibrantly healthy. Only then will you reap the benefits.

There are many foods which really are not foods. So it is possible to consume them, but food isn’t just about consumption. It’s about nutrition and the benefits to your body and to your life.

If you eat well regularly, you have a much higher chance of being healthy. So let’s look at what foods are (and are not) healthy.

Category A – Unhealthy foods are those that

  • are advertised, on TV or any other media
  • come in packages
  • have a list of ingredients, especially unrecognisable ones
  • have an indefinite shelf life
  • can be addictive
  • are processed

These will do nothing for your good health and are more likely to harm you. If you are a regular consumer of such ‘foods’ and also take medication, you are caught in a trap, which really is of your own making. Most GPs are willing partners as they don’t receive any nutritional training, so are as ignorant as most people.

Category B – Healthy foods are those that

  • have a short shelf life, sometimes very short (some dried or frozen fresh produce is the exception)
  • are rarely advertised
  • are generally cheap
  • have no ingredients other than what you see

That’s not quite the whole story, but it’s a good start.

Let’s consider some healthy eating habits that you may be able to change.

Breakfast for most people consists of either toast and jam or marmalade or cereal and milk. All four of these items come from category A – the unhealthy foods.

If you changed this to a green smoothie, consisting of green leafy vegetables and fresh fruit, all of which come from category B, the healthy foods, your health could improve exponentially.

Lunch for many people consists of a sandwich or roll, usually white, filled with meat or cheese, with a dash of margarine. Or something from a fast food outlet. Everything here comes from category A.

Suppose instead, you made your own lunch of salad, or leftovers from last night’s (homemade) dinner? That could all come from category B.

The true benefits of healthy eating comes from changing your habits. Making healthy choices a daily routine makes you immune to the sometimes hysterical advertising of unhealthy food.

Another benefit is that since you are supplying your body with nutrition it recognises and needs, you become less hungry. You don’t need to snack every five minutes. Constant hunger mostly means your body is desperately depleted of nutrition and it hoping you will eat something it needs.

It may take you time to get into these habits, but this is well worth the effort.

To recap the benefits of healthy eating:

  • your health improves
  • you have more energy
  • you need less, if any, medication
  • you are taking responsibility for yourself
  • you (can) spend less on food
  • your body is nourished, so you are not constantly hungry
  • overweight people lose weight

And all for such little know how. The important thing is to eat a diversity of the healthy foods. Seasonal fresh produce is the best. Certified organic is preferable, although not essential.

Whether or not you are trying to lose (or gain) weight, healthy eating should be your primary focus. Here are some healthy eating facts, based on research and logic, which may help you achieve this.

healthy eating factsA new report presented by the World Cancer Research Fund International’s Continuous Update Project, found that those women who ate more plant-based diets after breast cancer diagnosis reduced the risk of dying. 85 studies with 164,416 participants, were reviewed.

According to a study published by the International Journal of Cancer,
which followed 44,231 women aged between 32 and 52 years for 13 years, those women who had consumed the most red meat in childhood were at a 43% increased risk of developing premenopausal breast cancer.

According to an analysis in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, those who had a high consumption of red and processed meat increased their risk of bladder cancer by between 25 and 33%.

Researchers published a study in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention. Based on the diet of 1,806 men with prostate cancer and 12,005 men without prostate cancer, their findings found that the more the diets were plant-based, the lower the risk of prostate cancer.

An article in the Journal of American College of Cardiology published a study involving 20,721 men for 11 years. Lifestyle choices that were analysed were diet, exercise, alcohol consumption, smoking and belly fat. The findings were that those men who didn’t smoke, who drank only moderately, who exercised, who ate basically a plant-based diet and had the least belly fat had an 86% reduced risk of heart attack. The most powerful effects came from not smoking and the diet.

According to a study published in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation: Heart Failure, researchers followed 37,035 men for 12 years. Their results showed that for each 50gm (about the size of a hot dog) heart failure increased by 8%, with the chance of dying from heart failure by 38%.

Maybe that is enough healthy eating facts for you. How about some good old fashioned logic instead?

  • Carnivores have spiky teeth. Herbivores have blunt and square teeth. Humans have blunt teeth.
  • Carnivores have short intestines. Herbivores have long intestines. Humans have long intestines.
  • Carnivores have strong stomach acid. Herbivores have much weaker stomach acid, which humans also have.
  • Carnivores have acid saliva. Herbivores have alkaline saliva. Human saliva is alkaline.
  • Carnivores have no ptyalin in their saliva. Herbivores have ptyalin in their saliva, as do humans.
  • Carnivores have claws. Herbivores don’t. Neither do humans.
  • Carnivores perspire through their paws. Herbivores perspire through their skin, as do humans.

You really don’t have to be confused about healthy eating facts, even though there is a mass of conflicting information ‘out there’. You can use your logic. If you really need more, always check for independent research, as much research is financed by those corporations who manipulate the findings to suit.
