Healthy weight loss has two important components. First, and most importantly, eating the right foods. Secondly, you must be aware of the calories in the foods you eat. Weight loss comes about from eating fewer calories than you burn in a day.
So you can reduce your calorie intake or burn more calories. Both aspects are good to incorporate in any healthy lifestyle. How you choose to burn extra calories comes down to personal choice. You may prefer to go dancing more often. Perhaps pilates appeals to you. Yoga may suit you better. Or a simple stroll in the park with your dog maybe your thing.
This is not complicated to work out. Just make sure you do what you enjoy as that way, it will become a permanent part of your life.
What is complicated and so requires much more care is what are healthy foods? In particular what are healthy foods with few calories? If you simply eat foods that are low in calories, you are likely to become malnourished, if you aren’t already. Many unhealthy low calorie foods are nutrient poor. This means that your body is not getting the right nutrients to remain healthy. So you are hungry a lot of the time. Your body is desperate to get some nourishing foods, so keeps you hungry.
On the flip side, if you eat healthy foods which are low in calories, you can eat as much as you like without gaining weight. It sounds too simple to be true, but the reality is, that it is.
You may have seen a popular and well advertised dietary plan which suggests you should never eat bananas, oranges or sweet corn. You may have see a popular diet that limits your diet to cabbage soup. You may know about high protein diets.
All these are simply fadish diets. They don’t address your long term health. In fact many can contribute to compromising your health. And when you don’t address this, you will never be able to stay on the dietary plan, you will never be able to keep the weight off.
What is important to remember is that what you have done up until now has not been in your best interests. So you need to make a radical change. Don’t even consider a short term dietary plan. Instead, change the way you think about food. This needs to be a permanent change.
