If you are firmly committed to healthy eating for weight loss, you will notice that you never go hungry. Quite the opposite, in fact. This makes a refreshing change from other weight loss programmes.
When weight loss is singled out as the primary target, your health comes secondary. This is not good news. In fact, it shows a complete lack of understanding, by the diet creators, of why people tend to be over weight in the first place.
Limiting portions can have enormous limitations on your ability to loss weight and to keep it off. Rarely do these diets consider your activity, your personal metabolic rate, your current level of health or your body type. If you are lucky they may consider your sex and your weight. So you go hungry a lot of the time.
In fact, limiting portions alone could mean that you become MORE unhealthy, even if you do manage to lose a bit of weight in the short run.
The main target of losing weight should always be to improve your health. In obese people, there will always be some improvement in health with any weight loss, because the strain on the heart and other organs is reduced. But for the average overweight person, this will be minimal unless health is at the heart of the programme.
The idea that overweight people simply need to limit their food intake is a serious myth. People tend to be overweight because they lack proper nutrition. Their body is crying out for some real food, but it never gets it. So you remain forever hungry.
Once you eat real food, as much as you want, whenever you want, your weight will start to fall off. After a while, once your body is working at a more healthy level, when the pain and the disease disappears, then you will find that your appetite drops back. Now you don’t need so much to replenish your new healthy body.
Be careful not to fall into the trap of believing that by limiting your daily amount of food, you will lose weight. It’s not the amount of food that is important. It’s the quality of the food and the right food for you that is important.
Healthy eating for weight loss must also consider your reaction to the programme. Within a fairly short space of time, you should feel much more energetic. Your well-being improves. And, importantly, you don’t feel hungry between meals.
