Weight loss diets are as numerous as they are popular, but many, perhaps most, of them fail to consider your overall health. You may reason that losing weight is healthy enough, and to some extent you are right. But if the diet is not nutritious, you will quickly return to old, bad habits. Rather than looking for weight loss diets, consider a permanent change.

Many people come to the end of their diet plan, when they achieve their coveted goal, but then don’t know what to do. To return to your old eating habits will surely put you back in exactly the same place as when you started. This unravels all your hard work.

A better way is to realise that what you have done up till now has not served you. You may have health issues along with your weight problem. They tend to go hand in hand. It’s not so much the fault of your weight that is creating the health problems. It’s more that your diet is nutrient deficient. This tends to make you hungry more often, and so you eat more (unhealthy food), stacking on the weight. It’s a vicious and endless circle. You need to break the mould!

First, you need to understanding where you get your nutrients from. You need the foods that will supply these. These are also the foods which you can eat in abundance. In fact, there is no limit. Doesn’t that sound more healthy than the common idea of limiting portions, and so doubtless nutrients?

Then you need to understand which foods are essential for your health, but should only be consumed in moderation.

Of course, you also need to be aware of all the unhealthy foods that you should avoid like the plague. But that will be a lot easier to achieve, knowing you have no limit on eating the healthy foods.

And finally you need to consider your genetic inheritance, blood type, call it what you will. It’s that which sets you apart from everyone else. It’s that which makes you unique and so your eating preferences. The old saying of ‘one man’s meat is another man’s poison’ just isn’t considered in many weight loss diets. But this is an essential aspect of any permanent changes you need to make. You will be drawn to those foods that were part of the staple diet of your ancestors.

Understanding the whole combined aspect of health and weight, means that you can make permanent changes easily that will underpin your ongoing health.
